Hi all,

Need to source new master and slave cylinders for my 1973 96, which has the tin tank Lockheed master fitted.

Anyone recommendations as to where these can be most cheaply sourced?

I'm trying to avoid fitting one of the later plastic tank master cylinders for the sake of originality.

Thanks
Drew

Hi Drew
I can't confirm this, but someone has told me the Clutch Master is the same as used on a lot of British cars (early Mini etc.) Part is GMC 171

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/202630597453

There's even a British parts supplier in your part of the world
https://classicmotoring.net.au/brake-master-cylinder-metal-tank-gmc171oe

I've just measured the depth of the reservoir on mine and it's 2.25" (some seem to be advertised with 3" reservoirs). I sent mine off to a Specialist many years ago to be refurbished and a brand new one came back, so I'm assuming they swapped it out rather than refurb mine

Someone would need to confirm they are the same though, I can't see any model number markings on mine - John Saab may know as I think he does the seal kits

Hope that helps
Matt

The ebay part seems to be identical to the one sold by Skandix at 245€ !
Add-on: I just checked the characteristics. The Mini master cylinder is an 19mm model, whereas the Saab one is 5/8' (roughly 16 mm). You might get a harder clutch pedal when using the Mini setup.

Yep, different cylinders despite looking the same!

Are there any sources other than Skandix that anyone knows of? The cost of their freight is an absolute killer!

The master cylinder should be a 5/8" model per the shop manual. As no size is mentioned on the Skandix site, I wonder if they really sell the right part...

Hi Drew B:

You might take the time to look at this blog: www.whatonearthisasonett.wordpress.com [I'm afraid I don't know how to invoke a hyperlink]. Look at the August 20, 2016 episode: Retoration vs. Modification. Joshinator talks about using a Wilwood master clutch cylinder, including part numbers. It might not be the solution for you, but just a thought that it might be worth a look.

Good luck.

try these guys - I know a lot of the European parts suppliers have high shipping costs, may be tolerable if you're putting in a decent order....
