| The lower cups that are attached to the rear axles, on which the rear springs sit, are different from left to right.
Looking at the photos below, can anyone identify if this cup is for the left, (Nearside), or right, (offside) side?

It would appear you have the right hand side cup (when looking at the car from the front) the single hole goes in towards the centre of the car and takes a bolt, the outer two take the U clamp
I think I had these mounted incorrectly on my car at first and when jacked up (and with no stop strap) the springs would pop out of the cups as the geometry was all wrong (ie, the bottom of the spring needs to nestle into the front side of the rear axle)
I'll get out into the garage and take a quick photo under the car, we had another dump of snow here (to go with the 2ft on Monday) so the Canadian winter is not cooperating at the moment!
Hope my rambling helps!

bottom of the spring is near the stop strap, so you do have the one that's in the diagram above (I never learnt nearside/offside, despite my father telling me multiple times!!)
and taking these photos I can now see how dirty everything is on my car!!

| Yes, it looks as if the hole at the peak of the 3 hole triangle is inboard. The shiny hole in you case. | |

| Matt When speaking of left side/right side I think you normally take the reference as sitting in the car looking forward. I think you therefore mean the nearside (Kerb side if driving on the left side of the road as in the UK).
This means it's on the wrong side, because this is the cup from the right side, ie driver's side, UK car.
The chap who owns the car has said that the spring doesn't seem to seat properly on the cup, with tallies with your comment about the geometry being wrong if the cups are mixed up. I wonder if the one on the other side is also wrong, ie they've just been cross fitted.

| Offside methinks. Spring end is always behind the shaft. | |

| thanks Andy, and I think this is where my confusion creeps in, I'm driving a right hooker in a left hand drive country and my father (career Motor Trader) did a lot of underwriting for a left hand drive specialist, so the "driver" was always moving around!!
Still amazed how many people over here ask if the peddles are the same way around in a RHD car....

OK Woody, offside (ie rear driver's side) is where the cup is currently mounted. Chap who owns the car says that the spring is not seating properly...... I'll report back when I have made some more investigation.

| Is there a source for replacement U-Clamps for the cups? Both of mine are in a pretty bad way and I would like to replace them. | |

| It looks as if the cups fit the opposite way round on each side. They may be handed to suit the position of the spring ends. This stops the spring rotating. The top of the spring is probably ground flat? I doubt if the springs are handed? It might be possible to fit the spring the wrong way round but the bad fit should be immediately obvious. | |
