| john-saab | Posted - 02 Jul 2017 : 07:33:25 Photobucket (picture hosting) had decided, without prior warning, to change it's user policy. This will have a huge effect on this forum. Pictures that have been hosted by Photobucket will no longer appear on the forum unless the owner of those photos stumps up approx £40 per month. Some Photobucket accounts have already been closed for policy breech and other users locked out. If use PB as your host and still have access to your account it would be wise to save your pictures elsewhere (but the other host companies are being flooded with new members and are thinking about going down the same route.

| Woody | Posted - 15 Mar 2025 : 01:14:58 All my photos are on a backup hard drive. Only photos I want to host here get uploaded to photobucket. This is the only medium that uses img. |
| Derek | Posted - 15 Mar 2025 : 00:09:01 Nothing to stop you downloading your photos back down to your PC. I had a bunch up before they went pay only but I had downsized them anyway so all of the originals are still on my PC. Where ever you go just copy them there so you still have the original. |
| Woody | Posted - 13 Mar 2025 : 15:56:29 Unfortunately if I dump PB all myphoto contributions will disappear. It is not a lot at the end of the day but they will ultimately disappear when it is time to go to the garage in the sky. |
| SAAB96L | Posted - 13 Mar 2025 : 15:26:04 Just adding to Andy's post, Flickr is easy to use once you have tried it a couple of times.
Regards.

| andydeans3 | Posted - 13 Mar 2025 : 11:38:25 Woody Dump photobucket, and use Flickr. Up until the present, it's still free to post. Doesn't mean it won't change in the future of course.....

| Woody | Posted - 13 Mar 2025 : 09:53:03 An update on this. The service which was previously free now attracts a monthly charge of $7 approx. This way all my posted images are protected. Recently, again on the quiet, they have altered the rights so I have to pay a bit more to be able to host an image. I can log in and upload images as an online bank of photos but at present the ability to select a photo for hosting to the forum has been removed. This has happened in the last 6 months or so and I have not done anything about it. The monthly charge may now be around 10-12 pounds. Need to look at it and see how to Implement the increase. |

On second thought that may not work as the request for an img does not come from www.saab-v4.co.uk but from each his own browser, in my case from online.nl (when I am at home). :-(

He's back in the office on Friday, I'll bug him then

I assume WeDesign is on your webserver? Then if you make one FTP user+password account for saab-v4.co.uk members on your FTP server, we can all upload pics to it and link to them from our posts here. Your webserver can ignore any requests not from www.saab-v4.co.uk so linking from another domain is not posible (similar to Photobucket).

| v4admin | Posted - 02 Aug 2017 : 20:03:00 I have been trying out using Imgur, it allows unlimited free image store and links to use in forums such as this. the website is http://imgur.com/ you dont actually have to sign up but probab;ly would be a good idea.
this immage is on the site as a test, you can even set it to auto resize for the forum 640x480 is good

| melle | Posted - 24 Jul 2017 : 22:51:36 I've always been more or less happy with Flickr, but I've now started hosting my pics on my own web space, just to be sure. Should some of them disappear over time, be sure that's entirely due to my clumsiness!

| green96v4 | Posted - 20 Jul 2017 : 14:16:10 Forum Admins/Moderators - do we have a sense of how large the photo portion of this forum is? I would hate to see a large portion of this forum's image posts disappear because Photobucket got greedy - it's been a massively valuable resource for me and we have an FTP server, so I'm wondering (and I'm not the tech expert on this, that's my business partner's expertise) if we can host the images on WeDesign's space. Any of my posts that included images are hosted on our FTP |
| Woody | Posted - 19 Jul 2017 : 22:40:17 Hadn't seen this when I started my topic. Have n' t decided what to do yet. Going to seriously affect all my postings here. Other forums that I subscribe to don't accept images in the same way as you are saving the images to their server. All my photos on photobucket are saved on an independent hard drive. Photobucket have confirmed that the security of my photos is not compromised. The will disable the third party links so the photos won't be visible any more. They just view the account as an online photo storage facility. |
| melle | Posted - 02 Jul 2017 : 23:05:49 I'm using Flickr, although that hasn't gotten any better lately either.
