Further to my purchase of Dennis a 1966 2T Longnose (MYM 999 D) pictured below,I have started the intrusive investigations.
My first question is to Alec - would it be possible for me to include it as a Project on these pages please . I'm sure it was only because he was premature, an accident of birth, and would otherwise have become a V4

Cheers

Nice one. Didn’t think of that I can manage that. I was imagining some sort of butchery and welding : ).

I would cut the remains off. Drill it out and insert a H/T shouldered bolt with same thread which would be pinned in place with a roll pin.

Hi Woody,Thanks. It did cross my mind about a refurb to the shock mount but I think I would have to get someone to do it. I wouldn’t trust myself to do it well enough.
Cheers

Great work.
Your original axle with the bad thread can be restored rather than scrapped.
DynorogPosted - 01 Feb 2026 : 15:29:47
I've put a car cover over the shell to protect it from the condensation in the gazeebo and am now carrying on with a refurb of the suspension during the rest of the winter.
Ive de-ruusted the rear axle (well partly) and coated it witn Hydrate80.

I've boought new bushes from Malbrad. Centre rear axle, traing arm bushes(well thats what I call 'em), top and bottom wishbone bushes and put most of them in.

Went in easy after a dose of KY and a case of Oyster Bay.
Asdid the trailing arm ones and top wishbones.

The bottom unsleeved wishbone bushes were a different matter Steve at Malbrad did warn me but I destroyed one the another I did get in but it looks like its got hemeroids.

I will be going for the split Heritage type but Steve hasnt any in at the moment so Ill check elswhere or wait.

I boiled up a couple of spring seats in a mixture of citric acid powder and water. I saw it somwhere on on You Tube but I couldnt remember the proportions so I just threw it together.

I didnt clean the seats up before putting them into the mixture I just put them straight in, brought it to the boil, stirred gently and nearly choked, left to simmer for a while, turned off and left overnight.

gave them a wash down with surfax and a good rinse and they came out like this.

I gave them another do after taking these initial photos

They look like sort of galvanised Goodness knows what the coating is but they will gat a coat of Hydrate 80 and 2pack and hammerite or somthing and I wee what happens.

Blimey it takes some time inserting these photos.

I didnt get as much work done as I'd liked to before the cold weather arrived, but did managed to partly finish the the boot /roof bit.

It looks simmilar to the nearside and the nearside looks similar to the one on my V4 (Sally) but wether the this one looks anything like the on on Sally remains to be seen and I've no imediate intention to check. Its taken me B...dy ages.

I'll give it a spray with a zinc primer as a holding coat and then put a cover over to stop the condensation geting everywhere.

I'm just going to work in the garage now till it gets a bit warmer.

I started on thr rear axle.....

and then I found this -

I didnt notice when I was striping the car down. The threads are also damaged in the nut. It looks like it may have been jiggling about for some time. I wouldnt know because i've never driven it.
I think it may have held sufficiently but didnt want to drop the axle again when I EVENTUALLY drive it.

So I had another axle which bought in a sort of job lot in 2015 or thereabouts.
I have stripped down took me 2 1/2 hrs to remove one hub and 15 mins the other.

I'm soaking it in paint stripper them I 'll give it a rub down,DeOx Gel it,2pack epoxy and then any old black paint.

While talking Drums and Hubs the ones on this axle were different to each other.

That one you see the oil seal

This one you don't. I havent looked at it in detail yet but is it a sealed bearing? Any ideas!

I have also started fabbing up a new section for bottom of the o/s rear wing.

Thats it for now I've run out of photos.

Hi All and thanks for the comments.
Done some more work but its taking an age.
I cmae to put the os rear wing into position in order to drill the internal new steel for the installation of the captive bolts. It wouldnt fit properly. Then I rememmbered th dint! I hit it with my VolvoXC 70 back in 2019 just after I bought the car.I suffered road range seinginto my drive after being obstructed by some contractors working in the road outside. It had been under a car cover at the time.Damage didnt look too bad at the time. In real life it doesnt look as bad as it apears in the photogrraph but it was sufficient to make a differance to the fit.

So it had to knocked out which also involved removal of underseal.
I still have a garden hammock belonging to my youngest daughter taking up space in the garage despite numerous requests to remove it.She is 40 now.

I has come in very usefull.

You can see the dints circled here also some welding to do. That can wait for now.

Anyway I knocked out the dints annd the wing fits.

Still a bit more knocking to do though.

Cheers

Dynorog.
Aye great stuff Dynorog.
Though my blue 96 has had tons of welding on it over the years, when I look at what you have done on this car I realise that it's not that bad after all.
Amazing job. well done sir.

I'd love to see this car in the flesh, when it's finished
Is it likely to be finished for next year's show season?
ie Will we see it at Swedish day or SaabFest?

Great progress, some really difficult areas to work on there. Such a rewarding process, great to follow along.

Thanks for what I took to be a compliment Woody, as I’m not known for my patience and forberance, with this project I have not had any choice, it is the only way I’m going to complete it.
Your remarks give me encouragement.

Anyway I have uploaded the latest photo’s’

I did make the panel shoown in my previous post and it was a failure. I decided to do it again and used the frog tape method, not welded it in yet but its almost there,

I have been a bit concerned about doing the outside waistline and the curve of the roof.
When I bought some secondhand doors for the car I kept the old ones thinkin that any shaped good metal may come in handy.
The curve above the waste line on the door is very similar to that on the section at the bottom of the roof, so I had a go. Its been resonaby success ful and after skiming over with filler I think it will be OK.

Weldings a bit too messy but I had to keep burning back to get to some decent metal, Difficult to see it up the inside of the panel.

Its kept the overall curves reasonable.

Ive also replaced some sections of the inner wing and prepared the a section to replace the flange at the top of the wing.

Admiration for the patience and forbearance to keep chipping away at it.
