 Where did Saab get the 96 gearbox from?

Everybody knows that the V4 engine is a German Ford engine, but who made the gearbox?

Saab themselves, or did they buy it in?

When you say "steering gear", do you mean the steering rack?

Design was by Gunner Ljundstrom, assembly at a plant in Gothenburg, but no mention of who supplied the components and casing. Bearings we know are SKF but not sure about needle rollers. Do not recollect seeing any markings on my assorted standard, spec1 and spec 2 transmissions.

Question remains, "make" as in "manufacture", or "design"?

Decided to refer to the bible - the First 40 years of Saab Cars by Bjorn-Erik Lind.
Saab decided to make their own transmission for the Saab 92.
They did the same for the Saab 93, design made by Gunnar Ljundstrom on Easter Sunday 1952, almost 6 months before I was born.
The design represented the casing shape now familiar to V4 owners, but with smooth sides and only 3 forward gears and reverse.
It also gave the ability to select/deselect the freewheel from inside the car.
