Need some help here concerning public liability insurance. Just wondered if there were anyone in the group that either works in insurance, or knows someone who does.
The issue.
I organise the Scottish Saab Enthusiast's Stand at the Glamis Extravaganza every year. (HUGE, huge show at Glamis Castle in Angus, a little north of Dundee)
I've been doing it for years.

This year the organisers have told us that we need to have a Public Liability insurance to the tune of £5 million, otherwise our entry won't be accepted.
They gave me the name of a company who allegedly specialise is this type of insurance. Wrong!

They specialise in insuring Autojumblers and Trade stands, but not a bunch of Saab enthusiast sitting on their 10 m x 10 m stand with their cars. In terms of the insurance I've been informed it's not about the cars themselves, because they are already insured, its the Sitooterie/Gazebo, shelter thingy that we normally have on site, that needs the insurance. (In case someone trips over a guy rope and breaks their leg, I suppose)

To say that I think this way OTT would be the understatement of the year, but there we have it.

Can anyone give me some advice??

Hello Andy,

Having been the Events Co-ordinator for a classic car club on the South Coast, for many years, I know this situation very well and the requirements of sites. This is a common requirement and all events will end up this way.

I will contact our club treasurer and ask for the details of the insurance company; with whom you can liaise with.

Should have a reply in the next day or so.

Regards.

Richard.

Thanks Richard. The thing to understand is that we are NOT a "Car Club" of any kind. Just a bunch of people, with their classic Saabs on an area of grass with a gazebo. Some of us know each other out with this car show, others we just see once a year for this show, it is just a one of event, in mid July.
I say Scottish Saab Enthusiasts because the organisers want some sort of name.
Any info would be much appreciated.

Hello Andy,

Got the response I needed.

If you speak with Laura Taylor at Kingfisher Insurance Services via 0121.506.6047 she will hopefully be able to advise on your best options in respect of your requirements.

Let her know that Robert Spence [Southern Classics Society Treasurer] flagged her details; it may assist you further.

Another possibility is that the SOC or SEC may be able to cover your event attendance under their PLI - certainly worth investigating. The reason I mention this, is that the Daimler & Lanchester Owners' Club provide such cover provided they are notified in writing via a pro-forma as to the event concerned.

Regards.

Richard.

Thanks Richard, we have in fact contacted Chris Redmond at the SOC, this evening, to see what can be done through the SOC. Sticking point might be that all the attendees are not members of the SOC. Perhaps 3 or maybe 4 of us, out 15 or 20.

Andy

We have this now sorted through the SOC, using their Public Liability Insurance.
