| My 96 Souvenir was originally fitted with round amber foglights, although both the mounting brackets and lights seem to have gone astray over the years.
I was lucky enough to buy on eBay recently both a NOS rubber bumper 96/99 foglight bracket kit, as well as two NOS c1977 'Hella Halogen' amber foglights.
The brackets came with the bolts, ready to attach to the rear of the bumper. I had to remove the bumper from the car for something else anyway, so figured it'd be a good time to mount the lights.
I've uploaded a few pics of the bumper frame and mounting brackets here: http://saabpics.com:3000/gallery2/v/Drew-Bedelphs-1973-95-V4/96foglights/
Two questions:
1. Does anyone know if the two riv-nuts (pictured) is where the bracket mounts? I presume it is.
2. If so, why do the bolts supplied with the kit appear much larger than the riv-nut threads? Are these for use on 99 models, perhaps, whereas the 96 uses a smaller M10 bolt? This being the case, the holes in the brackets are significantly larger than the bolts that go through them.
Any thoughts?

| Hi Drew, The brackets shown in your photos appear to be those supplied under SS&R p/no 15503 for use on Saab 99 and 1975+model V4s. I have little experience of rubber bumper models and can only speculate that the size of hole was to accommodate both vehicles. Why the 99 bumber should have larger bolts, I can only guess at a requirement in line with the weight of the vehicle, and possibly USA crash laws. The positioning looks about right providing a location just inboard of the headlights. See photos on the 1978 SS&R catalogue | |

| | 99 & 96 front bumpers should be interchangeable I think. The Saab brackets for fog/spot lamps just bolt into existing holes in the back of the bumper, IIRC...been a while since I've fitted some ! | |

| | Rubber bumper part numbers for 96/99 are different, 99 has wider track so I assume the bumpers are a bit wider as well. I'd guess that the bracket kit is actually for the 99. The only difference to the 96 kit being the bolts. | |

| Thanks for the info. I've pretty much worked out that the brackets fit both 96 and 99, and bolt onto the riv-nuts just inward of the headlights (as shown in pics). The bolt size isn't any great drama, as I've simply obtained four new M8 rivnuts with the correct thread size (same as bumper attaching bolts). I'm just in the process of chasing up the 8mm riv-nut fitting tool, as most kits only go up to 6mm. No doubt something will turn up eventually!
Woody, is that SS&R catalogue available for viewing anywhere?

I was pretty sure they are interchangeable though, 99 may have wider track but the front end isn't that wide across the grille. Maybe a 99 bumper on 96 will stick out slightly from the wings?? Unless I'm getting confused with 95 rears... I know the 96 rear is unique to the 96 but one of them was like a 99 bumper... | |
