| Guys Since I've got the front calipers off the car at the moment, it seems sensible to replace the discs. They're not in terrible condition, but not perfect either. Thought I had nothing better to do than get my trusty 3 leg puller, (That I've used several times on the old, blue LHD 96 that I have), and whip the disc assemblies off. Well, erm, no. I've got the puller as tight as I can, and neither side is budging. I've tried a bit of tapping with a hammer around the centre, where the spline is, to no avail. Any ideas chaps? Get violent with it, (Ie bigger. longer spanner with a cheater bar on it), or perhaps a little judicious heat with a heat gun? (Not an open flame, though I could do that as well.)....

| Hello Andy,
I've had similar situations when dealing with rear discs on Daimlers and Jaguars, whereby the hub needs to come off to access the discs - serious pressure to dislodge.
I'm not a great fan of smacking cast metal with a hammer. More often than not doing the puller up as tight as you can with the aid of a breaker bar and then leaving [sometimes overnight] often does the job. Using a heat gun is fine, BUT if using an open flame you need to be wary about too much concentrated heat, rather a gentle warming spread over the whole area; you can do this with the puller still in place.
Quite often it does come down to sheer brute force with an extension bar and as I said, being left overnight with the puller on max pressure can do the job.
Regards.
Richard.

| My type of hub puller or the later Saab puller should be ample to get the disc and hub off. My one has the option to slide a stout tube to lock rotation of the assembly whilst tightening the puller bolt. I guess the same could be done with the later type which I last used in 1976 in my Saab dealer workshops

| Thanks for your input guys.
I got "Big Bertha" out, my 2metre long, 3/4" drive breaker bar on the 3 leg puller..........Took a couple hours of sustained pressure, but they gave in, in the end ha ha ha
