A difficult decision, but I have decided to part with my 96.
I've had it 21 years and consider it part of the family, but things change and it needs to be passed on. It is a 1971 example in Red.

Ideally I'd like someone to take it and restore it, rather than break it up, but it will depend if there is any interest.

The good points.
Runs well, car is in regular use.
I did 140 miles in it last week.
Everything works apart from the interior light.
Good engine and gearbox. Burns no oil and freewheel is good.
Goes and stops well.
Some notable features are 34ICH carb, Contactless points (as featured on here https://www.saab-v4.co.uk/articles/aldon_points/main.htm ), Silcone rocker gaskets, headlamp wash wipe (working), fitted "Car Robes" seat covers front and back, electric cooling fan, recent handbrake cables and a glovebox signed by Stig Blomqvist!
I have most (not all) MOTs since 1992. I have owned the car since 2004 and it has been kept on the road during my ownership.
Mileage is 72000 (I think).
In my ownership I have always run the fan belt gently tensioned to reduce side loadings on the balance shaft bearings.

Comes with a few boxes of spares plus 2 more gearboxes of unknown condition.

The bad.
It has rust, particularly at the front, on the inner wheel arches and where the firewall meets the floor.
The back is much better.
The paint is flat and tired.
The interior is poor under the seat covers.

Here is a picture of it this morning outside the house.

There is more information of work done over the years here:
http://www.steves-workshop.co.uk/vehicles/saab96index.html

I'd like something for it, just to put towards the next chapter in my motoring, but am having trouble valuing it. It means more to me than it's worth I'm sure.
I just don't have the skills or time to deal with the rust.
Car located in Bristol U.K.

Sorry to hear that Steve! Good luck with the sale. Perhaps bring it to Swedish Day next month?

Sorry to hear you're selling up - I remember your red 96 as it was the subject of a very helpful article you wrote on changing the clutch which gave me the courage to do mine (with loads of help from Andy Deans). It might take a while, but I hope you find someone to carry on the good work with it.

Sorry to hear you are selling. Along with many others on this forum I learnt a lot from your posts and site back in 2011 . You probably can’t do much about the time you have available for working on it but I’m sure your existing skills could be added to in order to sort her out.
Good luck with the sale.
Cheers
