| When I removed the wishbones on Dennis, some long time ago. I set the spacers carefully aside somwhere and like a dope I didn't sort them os/ns or right and left.
So the question is looking ahead to when I find the damn things, how do I set the wishbones up from scratch to a tolerable level, before taking the car to be set up properley at a tyre depot.

Which spacers are you talking about exactly? I had both sides of my wish bone assembly apart recently, (after one of them broke.....), but don't remember spacers. I just put back in, that which came out!
Also, what exactly is a tyre depot going to do for you? ( I must be missing something here..... )

| Sorry Andy, I should have said shims, between the body and the top wishbone mounting.
Tyre shop for tracking and camber angle.

Ah, now I know what you're talking about. I tried taking those off, when I had the whole suspension system off, but the captive nuts inside started to break free, so I just left it.
Good luck trying to find a tyre depot to do your tracking. They almost all need to hang sensors on the back wheels as well, which is nigh impossible with the 96, with the partially hidden rear wheels.
In the end I did it myself using these gadgets. See link at end of post.
If you end up using these, it is VERY IMPORTANT to put the weight of the car down on the suspension, using axles stands under the wish bones. The tracking is totally different, with the suspension, "hanging", so to say.
I reckon I got it to within a mm, front to back using a tape measure and laser measuring device.
