| I would avoid the ones on ebay - they are probably copies of Sachs rather than the real thing! My 96 has a diaphragm of unknown origin - it was fitted when I got the car! When I did the clutch on the 95, I fitted one of Steve's (Malbrads) Sachs ones, and it was fine.
I know the clutches went through a period when everyone was complaining of judder - my 95 was one of them - and I considered a diaphragm. Malbrads do both, but Steve advised me that his standard Sachs ones didn't judder, and he was right! The diaphragms are quite a bit more expensive and involve an exchange flywheel. Not worth it for a standard car - or even a mildly tuned one.

| Been a wee while since I updated. Haven't replaced the clutch yet although its still in my mind to do so. Ive fitted a new fuel pump after I found the last one was leaking oil and petrol from around the gasket. Quick oil change as well just in case of any contamination.
Also fitted a braided clutch hose. What a difference that's made. Gear change is a bit smoother, no crunching and pressure on the clutch pedal seems good. Will keep an eye on it for a wee while and see how it goes. Ive done about 120 miles on it in the last couple of weeks and it seems quite good.
I picked up a Weber 34 ICH from Fast Road Cars and plan on fitting this in the next couple of weeks.
Going from auto choke to manual wheres the best place to put the lever on the dash?

I put mine in the 'spare' hole on the steering column bracket, opposite side to the ignition switch.

| For Weber 34 ICH setup you could get hold of Mark Ashcraft's book "Installation Guide Weber 34 Carb" that should answer most of your questions. Re-jetting involves other factors--exhaust set-up, etc.--so his other book "Total Performance V4" would be helpful.
Have a look here... http://www.saab-v4.co.uk/speedball/topic.asp?topic_id=4090
Hope that helps.

| Brilliant thanks both.
Ive been reading up on a few threads and have that one printed out to help. Ill have a look at the books, thanks for pointing them out, going to be a bit of a steep learning curve on this one I think

| Had to order some new bits to get the carb set up correctly (should have checked before installing but got excited) all seems good now. Wee bit of fine tuning needed but can feel a big difference when pulling away and seems to sit at speed a bit happier as well. Ive gone for the after market air filter and a little filter on the rocker breather. Bit of a difference in sound, but not in a bad way.
Next on the list is tackling some scabby door bottoms and a wee hole under the rear drivers bumper.

| Had a trip out to Doune Castle last week for a work recce, took Krystal for a run to test the carb and all went well, brakes felt a bit tired by the end of the journey so will need to investigate and I think I've got an oil leak from the oil pressure sender as well.

| Been driving Krystal daily to work for the past couple of weeks and shes been great, tried changing the brake pads and started experiencing some bad vibration and noises so swapped back and all fine. After a longer run yesterday i noticed a noise that sounded like a fan belt whine. Checked this again this morning and the noise seems to be coming from the distributor area rather than the front of the engine. Ive tried wiggling things in the area but nothing seems to affect the noise.
Thought id ask here before trying anything else.
