Hello guys, I've just found an extra gearbox. The side loader makes me thinking it comes from a Sonnett. Is there a sure way to identify it from the outside? Nice evening to all.
I took these words from Jack Ashcraft's book. I thought it was a common désignation, but it is obviously not the case. This simply means that the gearchange lever is on the right side of the gearbox cover, facing downwards, instead of upwards as in a 96. As the covers are interchangeable, I wonder if this à real Sonnett gearbox or à modified 96. I am aware the final ratio is different in a Sonnett, but would like to check this without dismantling the gearbox as it is not leaking.
I believe the differential ratio was 9:42 on Sonett transmissions which is viewable stamped or engraved onto the ring gear through the oil filler hole. The Transmission Survival Guide by Jack Ashcraft (55pages) shows the side selector for Sonett 2 & 3. Cannot remember where I downloaded the guides from.
